Faux The Love Of Fur

Every now and then, a trend will turn into a classic - think skinny jeans. They went from being an of the moment piece to a basic staple in every wardrobe. This year, we see a reoccurring trend: fur.

Luckily for all shoppers on a budget, designers have embraced faux fur with all the love usually reserved for the real thing.

Faux fur everywhere is great, but I recommend the faux fur vest. This is the most versatile of all the fur pieces out there and the easiest to transition between Fall and Winter. Wear it over a long sleeve top in early Fall then with cardigans and scarves as it gets cooler. You can add a thin braided/leather belt over a longer fur to give it a fitted shape and dress it up. As winter comes you can throw it over a leather jacket with stretch hoodies and other warm layering pieces (be careful of adding too much bulk - if you are going with a hoodie, choose a thinner scarf, more fitted hoodies can be paired with chunkier scarves, etc...)

So far I have seen this one in person and loved it so much I bought it:

Michael Michael Kors Faux Fur Coyote Vest $130
(Pictured above, far right upper corner)
Note: There is a longer version for $160, but the vest fits is a bit awkward and adds bulk on the hip area- Herr suggestion: try it on before making any final decisions

Others that I have not seen in person but you can check out:

*Vena Cava for Aqua Faux Fur Vest $188 (Available September 1st) - It has a great ribbon bow at the front that you can tie/untie to add a stylish touch. Herr suggestion: tie when wearing the vest over a a dressier look for a more polished result or when trying to dress up a casual ensemble.
(Note: This comes from Bloomingdale's line Aqua, which has many of the season's most coveted trends and its own fantastic classic basics at inexpensive prices and are quality made)

*Macy's features various lines that will be offering faux fur vests. Check out Rampage, I.N.C., and Kensie/KensieGirl. All of these are under $90.

*H&M, Forever21, Charlotte Russe, and other such stores will also probably have cheaper versions that are cute and fun. Herr Suggestion: Don't seek out your investment piece here, these options tend to not last very long or do well after a few cleanings.

I will continue to look over options and update you as soon as more items hit stores. Until then, keep an eye out, and share any great faux fur finds with us by commenting on this post or emailing.

Happy Shopping =)
