What Women Want: 3 Rules Every Man Should Follow

Menswear is usually the domain of HYM. However, after my train ride this afternoon, I would like to take the chance to discuss men's clothing from the female perspective for just a moment. There are three basic rules that any man should follow if he is concerned, even in the least bit, with a woman's opinion (or anyone else's for that matter). Please read and abide men!

1. Underwear - I cannot stress this enough so I have made it the first, and most important, rule: NO ONE wants to see your underwear, no one! There is nothing that looks as dirty as a man showing his underwear covered rear. Granted, men's pants fit at their natural waist and underwear rides up from daily movement leading to some disclosure. This is perfectly understandable. However, there is no excuse for pants lying lower than your waist. Lately it seems pants have been sliding even lower - to the point of exposing your entire butt and front area. This is disgusting - sorry but it is true. No woman wants to see your pants so low you might as well have walked out just in your underwear. Pull those pants up! You can also try simply purchasing pants that are your size or (suprise) a belt. These are simple solutions that go a long way. Anyone doing anything worthwhile in life deserves to be taken seriously no matter what they wear - this style however gives people, particularly women, no choice but to disregard you completely. So for your own sake, pull them up!!

2. Dirty socks - Contrary to popular belief, most women do not care about the price of your clothing, the designer, or even how "fashionable" your clothing is. But we do care that you look clean and neat. Too many times I have noticed men wearing dirty or torn or linty socks. If your socks are going to show please wear clean ones, preferably with no holes or insane amounts of lint. Exactly what kind of socks or how they should be worn is for HYM to explain. However clean and holeless is basic clothing 101. Nasty socks make you seem like you do not care at all about your own hygiene - and if you don't care about being clean you definitely won't care about us. Trust me women notice dirty socks so throw today's socks in the wash, throw out the ones with holes, too much lint, or that are transparent from use - socks are as cheap as $1 a pair (Dollar stores) or $5 - $8 for a bagful (Kmart).

3. Too big clothing - I realize men may prefer looser fitting clothing. There is a limit though. If you are a size small or meduim do not wear X-Large beause this is not your size nor anywhere near it, if you are a large there is no need for XXL, and so on. You look unkept and silly. Try on your clothing either at the store or at home and check that your pants sit at the waist and allow you enough room to move - not so much room that you can wear all your other pants underneath. Check your shirt - there should not be enough material under your arm to allow you flight on a windy day. And please, no one cares how big your feet look - so wear your correct shoe size. Way too big shoes looks clownish.

Clean and neat - this is all you need, at least from a woman's perspective.
