Rainy Days

In keeping with this rainy day, I thought it would be a good idea to post on rainy day wear. There are a few items you can keep on hand should you find yourself stepping out into nature's outdoor shower.

Rainboots are a item to keep around and are great for MTA'ers, like myself, who find themselves trying to avoid getting wet on and off the subway (am I the only one completely freaked out by the idea that puddles on a subway station might not be just water ??).

For this item there are endless options and styles at every price point. There's All- weather types that will literally "weather it all" - for a sporty yet cute version try styles from UGGS, HUNTER, and Land's End - which is a great inexpensive option. Then you have cute ankle styles, that provide less coverage but are not as bulky. Burberry has a great pair usually available every season. You can find a more affordable version in just about any independent shoe store (try 34th street - I have seen tons). For those more daring, they are now heeled options that are stylish enough to risk wearing on clear days . My faves are from Tommy Hilfiger, both the tall and short versions are beautiful. You can try checking out the options at Michael Michael Kors - which is more affordable.

Rain Coats are another stylish and fun rain item. My faves options are: the classic rain coat (the one that most of us confuse for a trench coat), anoraks, and poncho style coats. Whatever you choose, make sure its water-proof. Also, beware of pairing your rain coat and rainboots - it can be too much, try a cute flat instead. The Gap, Land's End and L.L. Bean are great places to check for raincoats - most chain stores sell cute options but they are usually never water proof.

Any combination of dresses and leggings, tunics, blazers, etc. will look great with rainboots. Try a jean jacket or blazer on top. If you do the rain coat try it with flats or your regular shoes. Rainwear is so extensive now that you can dress as you normally would and just throw on either the coat or boot and be fine.

Don't forget: Umbrellas add a great touch and help keep you dry. I personally like those big ones that come halfway down to my shoulders - covers the hair better.

NOTE: If you go with monogram boots or umbrella, watch out for the multiple designer infraction. I did this one, purely by accident -Embarrassing is not the word!

Herr Suggests: Have fun - pick a bright color or crazy print. These items are an easy way to cheer up a dreary day.

Stay dry!
