Jessica transitioned her Summer romper nicely by adding key Fall pieces (right). Her romper was black, a great choice since the color fits both Summer and Fall well. She added a grey cardigan that was just long enough to cover her and provide warmth, but not so much that it looked dowdy. The cardi was also loose, keeping with the Fall trend of boyfriend style sweaters. Watch out for fit - her's was oversized while still well fitted to her actual size. Always try on oversized cardigans before wearing them out.
Another Fall touch that transitioned Jessica's Summer romper was the addition of a neutral and black colored scarf (left). When adding scarves, pay attention to material, thickness and length. As Fall just starts, look for cotton versions (like the one worn by Jessica). Go for long but thinner styles, this will allow you to drape them without it looking too heavy (and Winter-ish). A simple way of figuring this out is to try on the scarf - if you look like you are about to brave a snowstorm, put it down; go for a scarf that would be too heavy for Summer but not nearly thick enough for Winter.
On her feet Jessica chose flat black boots with leg warmer
style knee highs in a black and glittery style (right). The knee highs were key to making the boots work, they added the right amount of extra coverage without overdoing it. This look is a great alternative to tights and boots, though either look will work nicely with your shorter Summer piece.
Finally a beige creme tote (seen above) pulled the entire look together. Bags in lghter neutrals are a great way to balance out darker clothing during the Fall season; it strikes a balance between the lighter hues of Summer and the darker ones of Winter giving you a balanced Fall look.
So pull out your rompers, shorts, dresses, whatever - and try out Jessica's look.
Herr Suggests: Fall scarves are the best bet when picking a scarf style. These lighter scarves are usaully cheaper than Winter ones and available in more styles. Instead of buying a thicker version for the colder months, take two of your lighter ones and double them up. This will give you two options in the Fall and a different style for Winter.
